Nicole and Nick – Silvertip Wedding in Canmore

CANMORE ROCKY MOUNTAIN WEDDING AT SILVERTIP RESORT

Nicole and Nick said “I do” under the vast mountainscape among all their friends and family at Silvertip Resort in Canmore – in my opinion, one of the best places in our beautiful province for an outdoor mountain wedding!

My day started early. Driving out to the mountains, the skies were clear and bright. The sun was shining and I was ready to capture a true love story. When I arrived at Blackstone Mountain Lodge to meet with the guys I could already hear the room roaring with laughter. Drinking out of custom mugs, the gang was doing final prep before heading over to Silvertip Resort Golf Course for the Ceremony.

Getting ready

After capturing Nick getting all GQ for the day, I headed over to one of the most amazing VRBO’s I have ever seen. As Nicole was getting her makeup done, her dad and I traveled down the winding roads to hang her wedding gown in a tree! Yup it’s true – Nicole’s dad is awesome sauce. He helped me place her beautiful dress way high up in a very sturdy looking tree – which was great as that bad boy weighed a lot more than I was expecting. Way to go muscles! On our way back to the house, we chatted about the day to come and I could feel his excitement for his baby girl.

Nicole stepped into her dress as her bridesmaids waited eagerly upstairs for the big reveal. As they lined up – eyes closed – I just knew there was going to be major waterworks. I called out a countdown and they all opened their eyes at once to Nicole looking absolutely stunning. As I suspected, the tears were rolling!

Off to the Ceremony – Silvertip Wedding in Canmore

The ladies hopped into the limo and off to the ceremony we went. The warmth of the sun poured down on us as the happy couple said I do! I loved the little moments where Nicole laughed and Nick was teary-eyed. So sweet.

Before heading off to take photos of the newlyweds and wedding party, their parents proposed a toast to the happy couple. Everyone raised their glasses to start the evening festivities. Clink clink clink! Afterward, we headed out to a few different lakes and mountain ranges – the day was an adventure to say the least!

Into the Reception

When we got back to Silvertip Golf Course and Resort, Nick & Nicole entered into the reception with a roar from the crowd and a round of applause! The night was filled with good food, friends & family, and so very much laughter. Nicole & Nick have some of the cutest and funniest memories to look back at now – what an amazing day to be a part of!

A Little info from the Bride and Groom!

Wedding theme & colours:

From the moment we were engaged, we knew we would have a majestic mountain wedding. From the moment I met my future husband and started discussing getting married, he always made it clear it was his dream to get married in the Rocky Mountains. Nick was born across the country in Florida, and grew up with blue oceans and white sandy beaches.

I was lucky enough to be born and raised right next to the beautiful Rocky Mountains. So it was really an easy decision for us to head straight to Canmore and find our most perfect venue. Silvertip Resort was the first place we considered for our wedding. The moment we walked up to the gazebo overlooking the Three Sister mountain range, we knew right then and there this was where we were going to get married.

It was important for me to have an outdoor wedding as this is what I had dreamed about since I was a little girl. June 9th was picked because I wanted a beautiful spring day with sun, clouds, fresh flowers, and lightly covered snow tip mountains. I knew I wanted to be surrounded by flowers and greenery. I wanted to include accents of soft neutral colours and pops of gold to tie in an element of elegance and romance

Approximate number of wedding guests: 175 guests

Their Wedding Vibe:

As a bride, it was important for me to keep the wedding more traditional and classic. The theme I was going for was romantic and rustic chic. Since the Pavillion room was quite rustic or resembled a cozy mountain lodge, I wanted to make sure the feeling of the room had that floral, classic and romantic gazebo feel. It was important for me to keep the wedding light, airy and bright. That is why I kept most of the tables and decor white, rose pink and gold.

With the addition of lots of floral arrangements and greenery, it really brought in the touch of spring to the inside. To keep the theme of neutral colours, my bridesmaids wore a beautiful “dusty lavender” or “portobello” colour which tied in well to the overall romantic and classic feel to the wedding.

Nicole and Nicks top 3 best moments:

“Pulling up to the ceremony at the gazebo and seeing how beautiful the gazebo came together. I was so happy the rain has cleared up and the sun came out. Mountains were in full effect behind the gazebo. Seeing Nick at the end of the aisle in his blue suit, it was the most handsome and happy I have ever seen him. I was in tears moments before I had to walk up the aisle.

Listening to my husband’s vows. Looking into his eyes and hearing him divulge his love, commitment and promise to me. It was one of the most vulnerable moments I have ever seen him in. It is something I will never forget for the rest of my life.

The dance party! After a long day being able to have a “couple” glasses of wine with my husband and letting loose and dancing the night away with my friends and family. Witnessing the multiple dance battles between “Canadian vs American” friends. Nick and I were overjoyed at seeing all his friends and family from all over the states and my friends and family from Canada coming together and just having the best night.” – Nicole

Nick says his top moments were:

“Seeing my bride walk down the aisle”
“Having all my friends and family from all over the states in one spot to share a special day together”
“Seeing how incredibly happy you [Nicole] were the whole day”

Wedding song:

Angel and Better Together by Jack Johnson (custom mixed by DJ).

Jack Johnson was a common musician that we both enjoyed when we first met. I remember when we first got engaged, Nick pulled up one of Jack Johnson’s concert where he sang and mixed the songs Angel and Better Together.

Nick immediately said “I want this to be our first dance song”. Ever since that day, it stuck with us and it was important for this song to be our first dance. To make it even better, the summer prior to getting married, Nick and I did our first major road trip together and traveled from Alberta to Washington. Once in Washington, we stayed at the most amazing amphitheater called The Gorge.

Here is where we saw Jack Johnson perform and we witnessed him play both songs. This just made it even more special for us to share our first dance to this musician.

BEFORE THE WEDDING DAY

How did They meet?

Nick had recently moved to Sylvan Lake, Alberta from Orlando, Florida. I had just got out of a negative relationship a few months prior and was in one of my sad and mopey states. My friends encouraged me to step out of my comfort zone and have some fun by joining an online dating site (lets note, this was 6 years ago when online dating was still taboo to parents and tinder/bumble was not yet invented!). Nick joined the same online dating site to meet new people in his tiny town of Sylvan (haha).

My girlfriends and I drank wine together and developed a profile. That first night being on this online dating site, I had no idea what I was doing, I came across Nick’s profile. We instantly started talking and exchanged numbers. Our relationship started off very phone-based as he was away at work a lot. I will never forget our first phone conversation and how nervous I was.

Finally, after a few weeks of talking over the phone, he decided to drive down to Calgary to go on a date with me. I remember meeting him for the first time on Stephen Ave and going to The Unicorn Pub. We instantly clicked and had the best time!

We hung out until 4 in the morning sitting in my car talking the night away and shared our first kiss. From that date, we were kind of inseparable. Nick would drive down to Calgary any time he had days off from work and come spend time with me. After 6 months of dating we moved in together and that is where our life story began!

Engagement story:

Christmas eve 2016, Nick’s flight home back to Calgary from Florida was delayed. I was having Christmas eve dinner with my family at my grandparents’ house. In my most natural manner, I started to get anxious as to why I haven’t heard from Nick yet and why he has not shown up to my grandparents for dinner. FINALLY received a phone call from him, he said he needed to go home before coming down south to my grandparents.

Then I remember getting a little upset that he was going to miss Christmas dinner. I told him to forget about coming to Christmas eve dinner and said we would meet him back at my parents’ house. Once back at my parents house, Nick finally arrived. Now that I look back, he was acting very strange, he knocked on the door (which he never does) and so I came and answered the door. He looked quite pale and flushed, I asked him if he was feeling okay from the flight and he said he was fine.

“don’t worry about your luggage just come in and join the party!”

He then asked me to come out to the driveway to help with his bags, me being silly in the moment I said “don’t worry about your luggage just come in and join the party!” (Nick told me down the road he had a plan to propose outside). My siblings, parents, Nick and I then started to play the game Apples to Apples. About 20 minutes into the game, it was my turn and I had to pick the best card that related to the main question card. The question card was “Nothing is more relaxing than a quiet evening alone with _____”. As I started to go through the cards that my family and Nick have given me, I read Nick’s card that said “my boyfriend who proposes to you”.

I remember I did not get it at first and looked at my mother haha. I then saw Nick get up from his chair and come around the table. He got down on one knee in front of my entire family and popped the question! It is definitely a memory I will never forget because I think about how nervous Nick must have been and how special it was he included my family in this once in a lifetime moment.

TESTIMONIAL

“Sarah is an incredibly talented photographer. She has a very unique style to her photography, it was something my husband and I really appreciated. We were very lucky to have her part of our special day.

From the moment we met her, my husband and I knew she was a true artist. We knew she had our best interest at heart and that it was important to her to produce the most beautiful photos of our wedding day. Sarah did our engagement photos and my husband and I were so in love with the results, we really had the best experience shooting our contemporary urban style photos.

We really enjoyed her enthusiasm and passion both during our engagement shoot and during the wedding day. We were really looking for someone to provide direction and help us get the pictures we wanted and she was the person to do that.

My husband is very camera shy and was most nervous for the photography and I really appreciate that Sarah made him feel comfortable and got him to step out of his comfort zone. Overall, we really appreciate her artistry and her eye for beauty. We have had the opportunity to see a few of our sneak peak wedding photos and they have already exceeded our expectations.

My husband and I can say Sarah was a true professional to work with and we can’t wait to see our wedding photos!” – Nicole and Nick Ellis
