Just a little teaser to hold them over

Just a little teaser from Man & Gregs’ Calgary Engagement session.

A few weeks back I headed out to Chestermere, Alberta to meet Nim & Pal for the first time. We met just off the highway in an open field after a few shots Nim told me about her dads’ property and how he had a bunch of cars and trucks on his land. So I clearly was intrigued by the prospects of this location.

We decided to head on over to her dads place to check it out. As I drove up my eyes opened wide and my jaw dropped….I think I might have lost my breath… it was a total play ground for me. So many options and a wicked couple to inspire me. One could never ask for more.

One thing I noticed while shooting them was the connection they have – they were so comfortable with each other and I believe it comes across in their images.

Nim & Pal were incredibly fun to hang out with and such a breeze to shoot.

I always get really excited when I meet a couple that inspires me. Pal and Nim were one hell of awesome inspiration. Ok enough rambling on about how much I love this session and lets get down to the beautiful images I created for them.

How did you meet?
We’ve known each other for a while, our Dad’s have been friends since they were 14. It all started when they met each other at a bus stop, on their way to ESL school.

Was it love at first site?
Nope…I (Pal) was about a foot shorter than Nim growing up, and her and my sisters would hang out together…I was the weird boy that would come over and hang out with them…

What nim Loves about pal:
He tolerates my nerdiness and is always there to help pick me up when I’m in a jam.

What pal Loves about nim:
When she cooks me food….it sounds silly and cliché, but I guess they really can get to you through your stomach.

How did the engagement go down, who asked who (little story)?
Long Story…We were dating for nearly 6 years, and around Septemberish Pal got the idea to finally pop the question to Nim. Late in the fall, Pal got the diamond, worked with a company to custom design the ring, and then held onto it till February. During that time, Pal made sure to throw Nim off the path, so she had no idea this proposal was going to happen anytime soon. Nim was planning to go to Vegas for her Reading Week with her friend and Pal’s older sister, on the weekend that happened to fall on Valentine’s Day. Pal flew down on February 14th, 2009 to Vegas, and with the help of his sister, they convinced Nim she was going to meet a friend of a sister’s to pick up tickets for a show later that night at a certain hotel. When Nim got out to get the tickets from this “friend”, she instead found Pal standing outside the hotel, who said he was just coming to Vegas to spend Valentines with her. BUT, before they went to dinner, he said he had to go upstairs to get his wallet. Once in the room, Pal got down on one knee, proposed, and showed Nim an amazing ring AND an amazing ring box, complete with a LCD screen and a personalized slide show he made for her playing in the background. And Nim got a purse J . For the rest of the night, they partied it up in Vegas!

What was your favorite thing about your engagement session?
The tub picture, and how fun it was to see how relaxed we became as the shoot progressed

The one thing you guys cant wait to do at your wedding: Finish the day and cash out

What about nim makes you smile?
Her quirky awkwardness and amazing incoordination

Our perfect date is:
Our perfect date was barbecuing steaks and veggies outside, listening to Modest mouse, and drinking a few bottles of red wine as we watched a movie outside while a thunderstorm occurred out in the distance.

What about pal makes you smile?
How techno nerd he can be sometimes, and his obsession with that show “LOST”

You guys Love to:
Watch movies, eat Japanese food, go shopping, and sleep.

If you guys describe each other in one word what would it be?
Funny/Annoying…

One place in the world they just have to go to together:
Japan
