Chantal & Derek – Quarry Lake Wedding, Canmore.

August 30, 2016

Chantal & Derek – Quarry Lake Wedding, Canmore.

From the moment I met Chantal & Derek I knew they were super chill and just warmhearted people. I had no idea their friends and family would be such a blast to hangout with all day while I captured their love.

The day started out with the most beautiful drive to the mountains. I feel like the almost two hour drive to Canmore is possibly the most beautiful drive I do every month. I guess we are just super lucky to live in Alberta and have such easy access to the most majestic breathtaking parts of the world.

After arriving fashionably early, I took my time taking some pretty shots of the exterior of the Blackstone Mountain Lodge. Whenever possible, I love shooting the exteriors of getting-ready locations and it’s a treat when both the bride and groom are getting ready in the same place.

After almost getting hit by a car – be careful out there! –  we (myself and my second shooter Lisa) headed inside and parted ways to different rooms: Lisa with the guys and I with the girls.

The skies were overcast and it had been raining on the way up to Canmore. I crossed my fingers that by the time the ceremony began that it would clear up and no one would be walking down the aisle sinking in to a soggy ground.

Nature, as unpredictable as it can be, didn’t disappoint. By the start of the ceremony, everything was dry like it hadn’t rained at all at Quarry Lake.

Success! Chantal & Derek’s ceremony was full of love and natural beauty from the surrounding areas. Their amazing arch was the perfect compliment to their romantic vows and sweet looks to one another.

After the ceremony, we headed up the mountain to shoot at a few of my favourite spots before descending down to head to the ceremony. The formals we took are a mix of the organic moments and the editorial style that I absolutely love.

One of my favourite things about the Canmore Nordic Centre is the large deck with the most beautiful mountain view. It’s the perfect spot for an outdoor hangout during your reception, and it really makes you feel like you’re taking in the beauty of the mountains.

After the love packed day, Lisa and I said our goodbyes, packed up the car, and drove around back where I decided to walk halfway down a big valley to grab a couple shots of the exterior in the middle of the night. I think it was totally worth it to show the ambience of the evening (last shot of this post!).

Thanks so much you guys for having me capture your memories. It was such a pleasure and I just can’t wait to see what your future has in store for you both.

I first heard this song as the background music of a video of a home delivery (I am an L&D nurse) I didn’t think it was right for the video, but I right away loved it and thought it would be perfect for a heartfelt slow dance for our first dance.
