Johnston’s Canyon Winter Engagement Photos – Stephanie & Mike

Johnston Canyon Winter Engagement Photos – Stephanie & Mike.

How many people love hiking? What about hiking down a super slippery hill covered in ice? Not something everyone would enjoy, but Stephanie & Mike definitely did!

As we walked along the mountain trails at Johnston Canyon, I noticed just down below us, at the  foot of the river bank, there were these amazing icicles that had formed off the side of the hill. “So, you guys want to go down there?” I asked, playfully raising an eyebrow… The happy couple exchanged glances and I knew they were game. With sure footing and a little strategic manoeuvring, we made it down pretty much 100% safely without plummeting to our deaths (and with minimal bruised bums!). Stephanie’s love affair with her favourite colour pink really worked as a wicked compliment to the white and blue tones of the gleaming ice. It also worked super well with their dog Sadie’s collar.

Fun fact about Johnston Canyon in the winter: If you happen to be wearing boots that perhaps don’t have the most amazing grip, and if you hold onto the the railing carefully, you can actually ice surf down the walkways! To some, this might sound a little strange or even a bit precarious, but the three of us were laughing and enjoying it so much that I fully believe Banff National Park should probably consider offering this as some kind of extreme sport for travellers. With the proper safety equipment of course!

Now, for anyone else out there that is interested in going for a lovely mountain hike and having the cutest engagement photos ever, feel free to drop me an inquiry!  I am always up for an adventure and would love to do more shoots that involve light hiking. It was a blast!
