Tara+Matt Engaged!

March 9, 2010

After some strategic Google Mapping to find the perfect meeting point we decided on a wicked spot. As soon as I saw Tara & Matt interacting together I knew this would be an amazing and really fun Engagement session! After all Engagement sessions should really portray how a couple really is together, right?

After we finished in our first location we hit up an old book store for some funky and different shots. This place is really one of Calgary’s hidden gems!

How Tara & Matt met: Unfortunately there isn’t a crazy story as to how we met, just a lot of patience. Having worked together at a restaurant for a number of years, we dated other people on and off all the while maintaining a strong chemistry and interest in each other. It would be years before the opportunity to get to know one another would present itself in the form of a strategic setup by good friend.

Was it love at first site? Apparently it wasn’t love at first sight… more like ‘love at first date” , in no time at all it was pretty easy to realize that the love we had was definitely worth the wait.

What Tara Loves about Matt: So hard to choose…. I would say his undeniable support and belief in me, I wouldn’t be where I am today with out him.

Matt Popped the question! Just as with the beginning of our relationship the wait for the proposal was a long one (okay so Matt might say it was too soon). To say it was a surprise would be an understatement, a more appropriate term would be a “miracle”. Well that is a miracle that I said yes after all the scheming Matt put me through. One trip to San Jose del Cabo, Mexico and a lying boyfriend later we were engaged. Okay so I might be leaving out a few points such as the fact that we stayed in an amazing hotel, it was our first trip together (even after 5 years of dating), and a day or two before he proposed Matt stated for the record that “he wasn’t ready to get married yet”. Needless to say that night on the beach when it finally did happen and Matt popped the question I could hardly believe it. There were no tears in this moment just utter shock and a lot of laughter and maybe a few phrases like “oh my god you idiot”. In the moment we couldn’t have been happier and it is a true reflection of the fun loving relationship we have developed over the years.

Favorite song? Surprisingly we don’t seem to have a favorite song, we both have a broad taste in music but you will likely find us listening or dancing to anything with a good beat.

What about him/her makes you smile? Matt says everything, so that makes me smile. But I would say his laugh, he has a really great laugh, even when you don’t know what he is laughing about you just can’t help but smile.

How did you know he/she was the one? Matt says he doesn’t know… that is he knows I am the one (thank god!) but he can’t explain it, it’s just a feeling. I guess I share that sentiment, but I knew immediately that I would fall in love with him. Before we even started dating, when we worked together we had such a strong chemistry the type where your hands are sweaty, your cheeks flushed and you second guess everything you say to each other in hopes of not sounding like a stammering idiot. When you have that much electricity it’s easy to fall hard which made everything else inevitable.

They Love to: Laugh (we laugh a lot), skate/roller blade, golf, laugh some more and spending time together with our families & friends.

What Matt Loves about Tara: Tara’s sense humor and light hearted nature, she is always making me laugh.

One place in the world they just have to go to together: Paris… we have both been there but never together and it is just one of those places where everything makes you want to be in love!

Their Favorite drink: Too hard to pick, but we are always up for a nice bottle of red wine.

Tara & Matts perfect date is: Making homemade pizza, cracking a bottle of wine and curling up to watch a movie.

What was your favorite thing about your engagement session? Simply having the opportunity to capture the feelings we have for each other in a tangible, creative format was priceless. Oh and you can’t forget all the kissing! Testimonial: To be honest, we didn’t really know what to expect. We had seen Sarah’s portfolio of work and admired the creative nature of the images. Yet, we were both a little nervous, as with our wedding we wanted everything to be perfect so of course expectations were high. We didn’t know if the weather would hold up, if we would truly convey our feelings for each other or if our eyes would be closed in ½ the photos. Needless to say the nerves were present for the first few minutes, while we got accustomed to being in front of the camera. Although we are typically quite affectionate, it took a little getting used to being affectionate for the camera. Despite the cold day, I think the excitement of the shoot kept us warm. Sarah was very encouraging and made the entire experience very comfortable and fun. We easily shared the inspiration found in the rugged, eclectic nature of an industrial park and were very excited to see the artistic contrast of a soft, warm romance against a cool, textured, industrial background.  The end result was nothing but impressive, it appealed to the artistic and unique sensibility that we had hoped for but most importantly Sarah easily captured the way we feel about each other, which is often indescribable.

The one thing they cant wait to do at their wedding: Kiss my husband/wife for the first time
