PARK by Sidewalk Citizen Fusion Wedding in Calgary

Over the last few years I’ve noticed I get the pleasure of Photographing a lot of beautiful Downtown Calgary Chinese Fusion Weddings. This particular one takes the cake for me!

Jeff and Amanda reached out via the web to see if I was open for their day. They were considering a two day shindig at a really cute venue here in Calgary called PARK by Sidewalk Citizen. The couple really wanted their dogs to be included in photos and if you know me I was beyond ecstatic to oblige.

Especially when I found out their one doggo was a one eyed pug! My heart!

Lucky for me and for them, I was still available and excited to hear more.

Amanda let me know they really wanted someone to capture their day that was amazing at candids but also had an eye for an editorial style as well. She was clearly in the right place!

This is the second day in their two day Downtown Calgary Chinese Fusion Wedding!

On Day one we did a first look at the Library followed by a few portraits around the East Village before heading to Grand Central for a tea ceremony and dinner.

Second day

Day two this beautiful day below. I met Amanda and Jeff in Bridgeland where we hit up some of their favourite places, grabbed lunch at Lil Empire and then went to a few more spots around downtown before we headed to PARK by Sidewalk Citizen to meet up with their family for a few family photos before the ceremony.

Their Ceremony was AMAZING. Let me tell you why.

One their son is so freaking cute and he reluctantly walked down the aisle with a custom 3d printed ring box (Totoro figurine) that Jeff made to hold their rings.

Two they walked down the aisle solo but then were quickly met with Seb who was a little overwhelmed and just wanted his Mom – they rolled with the punches and didn’t rush through their ceremony.

They took the time to share with one another before a surprise ring exchange with Siren Whistles that is a homage to the rings in The Simpsons.

After the ceremony instead of rushing down the aisle away from their guests they sat in the front row where their parents did their speeches to the crowd. Jeff and Amanda finished the speeches off with words to their friends and family before they mingled in a cocktail style reception.

Before the night was over

Before the night was over they had a piñata for the kids and their first dance followed by a cake cutting under their custom neon light.

The day was perfect, a combination of everything a Wedding done your way should have. Personal touches, staying true to your connection and doing exactly what you want!

I am so happy to have met Amanda and Jeff as they are so chill and laid back and just simply loving Parents, friends and humans!

If you’re on the hunt for a Downtown Calgary Wedding Venue I highly suggest PARK by Sidewalk Citizen! It was the perfect spot for Amanda and Jeff’s day and I would love to shoot there again!!

Wedding theme and colours

Desert Disco. Jeff spent a lot of time going to Arizona as a child (grandparents were snow birds).

We went to Arizona as a family in March 2022, and I also fell in love with the desert. Disco because I like shiny things, and if you’re going to be extra, do it at your wedding. We didn’t do a whole lot of decorating since the venue was already so beautiful, but loosely we used sunset colours and disco balls.

Approximate number of guests: 75

What theme or feel were you going for:

Casual, chill, fun. Not too traditional, loose. More focus on the food and party than tradition.

Your top 3 best moments and why: Reading vows to Jeff, dancing, eating all the halloumi

Kind words:

Sarah was great. We’re two people who aren’t super comfortable in front of the camera, and she made things easy and chill for us. She rolled with the punches with intense family, and disappeared into the crowd to get all the great candid shots of us and our guests. Would definitely recommend her to other couples.
