Kananaskis Engagement Photos in the Canadian Rockies
There’s something extra special about Engagement Photos in the Canadian Rockies when couples bring their dog. It makes the photos feel even more them – a little more playful, a little more real, and full of the kind of love that’s just effortless.
For Adriana and Justin, their pup Milo wasn’t just a pet – he is family, their baby if you will. So, of course, he had to be part of their engagement session in the breathtaking Canadian Rockies. We explored two incredible locations, and Milo had his own little adventure along the way.
First, we wandered through Kananaskis Country, where we found the dreamiest turquoise river. While Adriana and Justin soaked in the views (and I captured their effortless connection and matching tattoos), Milo patiently hung out, probably wondering when it would be his turn to shine.
Off to Barrier Lake – the perfect second location for Engagement Photos in the Rockys
Then, we headed to Barrier Lake, and that’s when things got fun.
Milo finally joined in – and ohhh did he make the most of it. Between zooming through the river bank and splashing in the water, it was clear this was his kind of place.
But the best part? The moment he decided to take a spontaneous swim, only to run straight back to Adriana and Justin, shaking his excitement off all over them. Classic Milo move.
If you’ve ever wondered whether you should bring your dog to your engagement photos, the answer is always yes. They bring so much joy, personality, and let’s be honest – some of the best unexpected moments.

Their story!
How did you meet? We met in middle school! We were 12. Although we did not start “seeing eachother” officially until the end of highschool. But we always ran in the same friend groups!
What is your favourite thing about one another? Adriana: My favorite thing about Justin is how ready and willing he is to always jump in to help others. He is the first to offer his help and lend a hand and I love and admire his kindness so much. Justin: My favorite thing about Adriana is that she always makes me feel like I’m home no matter where we are. As long as she’s there, I’m home.
What was your favourite part from your engagement shoot? Our favorite part of our engagement shoot was getting to include Milo. He’s become such an integral part of our family and love story, we have raised him together and can’t imagine life without him. We’re so happy he’ll be immortalized forever in these photos.
About their shoot
Why did you feel the location was wicked for your shoot? SO amazing. Sarah really nailed this location. We left it up to her to choose based on her experience and the vibe we wanted. Absolutely loved how the lake ended up matching my dress, it totally felt like we were in a fantasy novel. I think it really captured the fairy tale of our love for eachother!
What are you most excited and looking forward to for your wedding day? We are most looking forward to having a small celebration with really close family and friends so we can truly be in the moment. Hopefully in the mountains. We want to capture our deep love and friendship with each other and have that be the main focus – and hopefully have milo be the ring boy or have his paw print on our marriage license!
If you could own a dinosaur as a pet what one would you choose?
Adriana: A raptor. We had a puppy, I feel like the vibe is the same (lol).
Justin: Stegosaurus cause the name is awesome
Coffee, tea or booze?
Adriana: Coffee!! always and forever, can’t live without it
Justin: All of the above
Proposal Story
Engagement story: He asked me! and he told me he even asked my fathers permission earlier on which I still think is the sweetest thing ever. It was a July evening, and we were going to take a drive to the mountains. I don’t feel like I was on to him per se, but it was funny looking back and recognizing how nervous he was! I think as we were driving he was trying to find a perfect sunset spot to propose but was struggling. Not to mention, I was being resistant to leaving the car due to the bugs LOL. Oops. Eventually we got to this beautiful spot and he asked me to get out of the car and check something on the tire (even though he is a mechanic, I totally fell for it) and when I turned around he was on one knee with the ring. He had a whole proposal speech and we were both crying and laughing. It was perfect!
Kind words
Sarah was absolutely excellent. She was completely present and with us for the shoot day and all the days leading up to it. She was so laid back when I was sending her multiple pictures of outfits and dresses and asking for her advice and feedback. Lo and behold, she helped us make a great choice! She has such an eye for detail and story telling. We remember feeling so silly sometimes but wow you would never know that based on how the photos came out. She made us feel at ease and worked her magic to make our love really come across through the photos. She was also so wonderfully relaxed and happy with Milo, despite him being so excited! I’m thoroughly impressed at how well she captured our ever-moving fur baby. I would absolutely work with Sarah again and recommend her to any friends and family!
