The rain ran down my windshield as I packed my bags into my car. I hooked up my iPhone to my aux and scrolled for my long drive play list. I hit play and started my drive to Canmore. As I sipped on my coffee Crystal and I chatted about our week and life. The drive is always beautiful when you’re going into the mountains. Time flew by as we talked about Leanne & Justins day and how we were going to execute their first look.
Arriving at Stone Ridge Mountain Resort we parked and had a snack to energize for their getting ready photos. We arrived at their rooms and started capturing their moments. Justin is this musical, free loving kind of man and Leanne is a sweet full of laughter kind of gal. Crystal captured the guys getting ready than relaxing around and jamming out on their guitars and singing. The girls are always more detailed in their approach to getting ready so I took the quiet moments to shoot Leannes details before capturing the moments of her putting on her wedding dress with her Mom.
We met Justin and Crystal down by the pool for their first look. Crystal and I stayed off to the different sides so we could capture both reactions to the first moment they shared on their wedding day.
We then headed for a hike. We walked up the hard route of Grassi Lakes until we got to the top. Stopping along the way in a few spots to get photos in the sweet moments they were sharing. I can’t start to explain how much I now have a true love for hiking. I always enjoyed it before but now I actually am trying to convince every bride and groom I have to go hike a mountain for their portraits.
After our shoot we headed back into town just in time for their ceremony at the Miners’ Union Hall.
We did a few family portraits following the ceremony and headed to Murrietas’ for their reception. If you have ever traveled to Canmore you might be lucky enough to have tried the food at Murrietas’ if not you should head out there and plan to spend some time drinking wine and enjoying their unique cuisine.
I love the feel of Leanne and Justins reception. It was relaxed and had an informal feel to it. Wild flowers, tulips and vintage book centered on the tables with simple white plates and tea lights. They kept the feeling of the restaurant a rustic natural wood with the pops of wine bottles and barrels.
As we left the reception to head back to Calgary feeling joyful and satisfied with the memories that were captured and the excitement of what Justin and Leanne would feel when their completed images were sent to them.
Thanks guys for being you and for having such wonderful people around you on your wedding day. It was one of my most enjoyable times in Canmore.
